Evan goofed around in his room before actually napping that it was after 4 before he had waken from his nap today. We put him down for his nap at half past noon. It was another long road getting him to go to seep to begin with, but finally I went in and woke him. We wanted to share some bread products of ours, that were on the way out, with the ducks and geese and so we had to get a move on in order that we return in time for dinner. We all had a blast and I got to just play with the new camera. I took lots of really bad pictures, but it was fun anyway. I did come up with a few that I enjoy and thanks to the Nikon software, I can go back in and analyze the specifics on each shot. Let me know if you can tell at a glance something I should have done differently.

Santa treated the boys well again this year, with a little help from the grandparents and us, of course. Here are a few of my favorite pictures from the days surrounding the big event.

Lucas was supposed to be a narrator, but he was so good with learning his lines, that he ended up being assigned an addition role and wound up as a wiseman again this year. Even went on stage quite reluctantly, didn’t sing with his class, but didn’t scream or cry, so we consider it a success. For a little while before he was supposed to go on stage he was a wreck, so it was a close one.

We opened gifts when Granna was in town and also on Christmas morning. The photos that follow are intertwined. The boys are wearing Thomas PJs or a blue shirt and plaid blue bottoms when it’s Christmas morning. You see that Santa brought Beauregard a giant bone which brought him days of joy (and kept him from eating the foundation of our home). The photos that follow these were taken on our trip to Grandma Sue’s or around the house before New Year’s Eve.

Living out loud, that’s how we roll! We really had a great time hanging out with one another and just being in the moment.

I had such a good time tonight, taking the training wheels off of Lucas’s bike, suiting him up in his knee and elbow pads and watching him get on his bike. The helmet is just slamming! I can’t believe how much this summer has seen changes in him. He is growing up. He watches Ben 10 and knows the characters’ names. This week he got a Ben Tennyson action figurine for a major accomplishment. He’s big.

His legs are longer, his mind is sharper and he is just more alert. He remembers every thing. It is so fun getting to know him. Tonight, when it was time for teeth-brushing, I heard him say to himself, “I’m glad it’s school.” Soccer has barely started, but we’re gearing up for a busy weekly calendar. This evening, taking a family walk with Beau, we had a pleasurable stroll.

We’re watching this transformation in Lucas.

Gathering stories. Talking to people. Being genuine.

It's crazy. And so relaxing.

It's going to be a great year. I love being where I am and I have great faith that this is the year I really hit my stride.

Good gum too, by the way.

When you’re half way to crazy anyway, sometimes you just embrace it and really go whole hog to ensure that there’s no questioning your sanity. It all started with an email from a colleague/friend with the following picture:

Tater
After showing Matt, who has always said he loves bassett hounds, a possible pet is adopted. I visited him after lunch and relayed all pertinent information back and then got a kennel and picked him up for a new chapter in his and our lives. Below, you see a very surprised and excited little boy.

Wish us luck. And patience. He’s not fully trained as yet.
